Stupid on Main Street

September 2, 2012

Yesterday a group of 5 young men and one woman set up a little kiosk on the sidewalk in front of my bank. Three out of four sides of the kiosk were plastered with this image:

Nice. OK, I’m thinking, wingnuts. Run of the mill stupid.

But no, on the fourth side of the kiosk is this:

Not run of the mill wingnuts, then. I walk up to the guy who is doing the most talking and he says, “Obama is a MASS MURDERER!”

Whoa. Not just a Kenyan Muslim Socialist? Egads. So I point out that few republicans wish to restore Glass Steagall. “No! We’re Democrats!” he replies.

No matter what I say he returns to “Obama is a MASS MURDERER!”. So I mention that he might wish to consider that he has some mental health issues and go into the ATM to make my deposit.

But when I got home my curiosity got the better of me and i searched around for “Obama Hitler Moustache” and all references led to Lyndon LaRouche, the name and logo of which had been, oddly enough, concealed on the kiosk posters.

Now there’s a bucket full of crazy, but then they run a demonstration that can only benefit the Republican party this close to the election… Now that’s STUPID.

Hello world!

September 1, 2012

Hello. I’m astonished how little evidence-based thinking goes on in the world and particularly in my very own country, the U.S. of A., a county that is a great idea whose time has come, I’m afraid.

Mark Twain:  “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
